Learn Wedding Gown Lingo With Us: Silhouettes!

You will hear a lot of bridal lingo in your gown journey. You're not expected to know ANY of it, but here's a quick guide to help you communicate with your stylist during your bridal appointment!

 

The seven main silhouettes are sheath, trumpet, mermaid, fit and flare, slim a-line, a-line, and ballgown. You've probably heard of a few of these around and we want to show you what each term means! It's important to understand the differences to effectively communicate what you're looking for!

 

Sheath - fitted over the hip with minimal flare in the skirt

 

 

A-line - fitted at the natural waist and a skirt that "A's" out from the waist

 

Mermaid - fitted to the low thigh with a dramatic flare in the skirt

 

Fit and Flare - fitted over the hip with a high flare in the skirt

 

Slim A-line - fitted at the natural waist with a skirt that drapes over the hip and to the floor

 

Trumpet - fitted over the hip with a gradual flare in the skirt
