Newly Engaged! Now What? Wedding Checklist!

So, you just got engaged! Congratulations!

But.....now what?

12-16 months before your wedding

  • Get an idea of budget. Discuss with your partner and your family if they are planning to contribute. *Be sure to have a buffer in your budget, just in case.

  • Start on a rough draft for your guest list and choose wedding party! *Make sure you know how many people CANNOT be dropped from the list (it will be helpful when shopping for venues)

  • Find the perfect venue! This may determine your wedding date. *Some venues have certain restrictions, or will provide catering options for you. Be sure to get all the information!

 

8-10 months before your wedding

  • Book your caterer if your venue doesn't offer catering. Check with your venue about any specifics!

  • Book your photographer.

  • Send out Save-the-Dates

  • Register for gifts!

  • Do research on hotels for guests who are traveling to your wedding. *Some hotels have deals on reserving blocks!

  • Book any entertainment you wish to have at your reception!

  • If you haven't purchased your wedding gown, DO IT NOW! *It would also be a good idea to order or purchase accessories, too.

 

5-7 months before your wedding

  • Lock down an officiant

  • Book a florist

  • Figure out wedding colors and decorations

  • Shop for bridesmaids dresses *Some designers take longer to order than others.

  • Arrange transportation

  • Book lodging for night of the wedding *If necessary

  • Plan honeymoon *If you are leaving the country, book flights and hotels.

 

4 months before your wedding

  • Choose music

  • Schedule hair and makeup artists

  • Choose and order wedding cake!

  • Finalize guest list and seating chart

 

2-3 months before your wedding

  • Buy your wedding shoes and start alterations on gown *Make sure you also have your undergarments

  • Bridal shower!

  • Order linens, tables, and chairs *Some venues provide these!

  • Finalize menu and flowers

  • Purchase wedding bands

  • Make list of people who will make speeches at the reception

  • Make itinerary for the wedding day

  • Send out invitations *Two months before

  • Finalize plans with your photographer

  • Touch base with your vendors just to make sure everything is set.

  • Bachelorette party! WOO!

 

1 month before your wedding

  • Get marriage license

  • Go to your last dress fitting *You may need one more after this one depending on the dress and the fit

  • Purchase bridesmaids' gifts

  • Stock the bar *If your venue allows it. Be sure to check with your venue about their alcohol policy!

  • Make any final payments as possible

  • Write vows

  • Get hair cut and colored *If necessary. You might also want to look into tanning options if needed.

 

Week of the wedding

  • Confirm arrival times with vendors

  • Delegate small wedding-day tasks

  • Pick up your wedding gown *You can also do this two weeks before.

  • Set aside checks for the vendors *Put tips in envelopes to give day-of.

  • Break in your shoes *Very important!

  • Pack for your honeymoon *You don't want to do this last minute.

 

Wedding day!

  • Get married! *Don't forget to stop and enjoy your day!
